I prefer the bleep test to the dreaded step test. I managed to get through a bleep test a couple of years ago, with a respectible level, despite two of the other runners taking the mick out of my running top at the start. But they bowed out well before me! :)smug

our level in Lancs is 9.6 and i can do over level 10, with a bit of skirt,,, sorry encouragement up front It's not easy though. You have to perfect your "Turn" aim to be turning about a meter from the line, if you can do an acrobatic turn mid stride and land with your trailing foot just on the line you will shave milliseconds off your direction change, it doesn't sound much but by level 8 + you'll see what i mean. I have the 20 meter Australian army version and it goes to level 21  thats twice as fast as a blue arsed fly, and some.
today i have been mostly eating cabbage

Mate,

I have found that mixing the training up, so you don't get bored silly listening to the bleeps. I use hill sprints, which take alot out of you, are brilliant for improving your anerobic fitness. Circuits I also enjoy, especially throwing it a few weights in between.

I thought that they had binned the step test, in preference to the bleep test, as it is a more accurate measure of someone's fitness. I spoke with a cardiologist a few years ago, who had been hired by a WT who had failed his annual medical (step test), to give his professional opinion that the step test was always going to fail candidates with high pulse rates anyway. Whatever amount of fitness someone did, if they had a particularly high pulse rate, then it would always remain fairly high. If I remember rightly, the chap got back into his brigade. :)clap
